Recovery Room

After the procedure, you will be moved to the recovery room where you will be closely monitored until you are ready to go home. When you are awake, your family will be able to join you. Although times vary, most patients are discharged 30 minutes to two hours after surgery

Here are a few things to keep in mind

• It is normal to feel discomfort in the area of your surgery
• You may also experience some drowsiness or dizziness, depending on the type of anesthesia and/or medications you received
• Your doctor may give you a written prescription at discharge which can be filled at the pharmacy of your choice
• Discharge instructions will be reviewed at this time, signed by you and your family member. We make copies and send you home with original!

Sometimes people are so focused on their surgery that they forget to ask questions about their recovery. Here are a few details about what you can expect:

• Monitors are applied by recovery room nurse
• Oxygen may be applied by facemask, tent, or nasal cannula
• Vital signs are monitored closely
• You will be assessed for nausea, pain, circulation, or bleeding
• When you are awake, you may be offered ice chips, water, soda, or juice
• Braces, boots, or a sling may be applied

Leaving the Center & After Your Procedure

• A driver is required for most procedures (please do not drive for 24 hrs after anesthesia)
• You must be watched by another person for 24 hours if you were under anesthesia
• Your physician will provide specific instructions for care while recovering at home, and present them to you at time of discharge
• In the event of any difficulty, please call your physician
• In the event of an emergency, please call 911
• A nurse from the facility will call you within a day or two to evaluate how you are recovering at home
